What is Freeview or Freeview+ ?

Freeview and Freeview+ channels are  a great line up of channels that have been around for a while. They are free to air channels and covered by your television licence!

It’s all the television programmes that keep you glued to the tv screen and make you laugh, cry, shout, hide, talk about the next day. There’s plenty of digital TV channels and radio stations to keep you amused for hours, with no subscription, including ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, BBC 3, BBC4 and many many more channels.

Freeview+ is basically the same as Sky+. The Freeview+ box has a hard drive built in, to allow you to record, pause and continue watching your TV programs. It’s a great idea and a natural progression for Freeview channels, again its all free once you have purchased the equipment. Your aerial may need upgrading to a wideband aerial, but once this has been done then your free to watch and record your favorite tv programs.

What Aerial do I need for Freeview?

Receiving Freeview channels is easy. You only need to plug in your Freeview compatible aerial to your Freeview set top box or Freeview compatible television and that is it!

Technically there is no such thing as a Freeview aerial or a digital aerial. The old type aerial that really needs upgrading is known as a directional aerial for the chosen transmitter. Where as Freeview reception ideally needs a wideband aerial, which most people refer to as a Freview or digital aerial, hence the confusion. They must have a good clean signal to receive the Freeview signals. Also required is a good quality cable, capable of sending the signal from the aerial to the receiving equipment ( as per CAI and Digital UK guidelines). The cable that we use and would recommend is fully screened and CAI benchmarked.
